Here is what remains of a bumper crop of Thai Hot Peppers I grew in 2008. These have lasted so long dried only because they are very hot and a little goes a long way. These peppers are very easy to grow and very productive in a sunny location. In fact I’ve had unlikely luck with most of the peppers I’ve tried to grow here. Last year I experimented with Scotch Bonnets, the pepper of the Caribbean and I ended up with an impressive harvest which I gave away to my friends who can take the heat because, as one of the hottest peppers in the world, they were a bit much for me. I stuck to the tame and delicious Anaheim which even did well in a partly shady corner of the garden.
This year we’ll be trying a jumbo mild chili called “Biggie” and some sweet orange bell peppers. It’ll be a while before it’s warm enough for these plants to grow outside so for now they spend their time in the window patiently waiting for the summer heat.
